The beard guide
From growing out to keeping it up
Most beards go through the same four stages. Here is what each one needs, and what a visit to the shop adds.
Growing out: wait for about four weeks, then a first shaping
Shaping: a cheek line and neckline that suit your jaw
Keeping it up: a short visit every two to three weeks
Shaving comfort: a warm towel and a slow razor

Your first beard visit
A first visit takes a little longer than a maintenance visit, because we start by listening.

Step 1: Book your visit
Book a first shaping or a hot towel shave, with a barber by name or with the next open chair. Write to us if you want to say how long your beard is now.
- 02
Step 2: What to bring
A photo of a beard you like, and a day or more of growth for a shave. If you are growing out, come with about four weeks of growth.
A photo on your phone is enough

Step 3: When you arrive
Come ten minutes early. Parking is on Manchester Avenue and in the lot behind the shop. Sign in at the board, or tell whoever greets you.

Step 4: What to expect
Your barber looks at how the beard grows, agrees a shape and a length with you, and works through it. A first shaping runs about 30 to 40 minutes. A hot towel shave runs about 45.

What helps at home
Wash gently
Wash the beard with a mild soap or a beard wash a couple of times a week, not every day.
Comb it dry
Comb or brush it dry, from the cheek down. It trains the hair and lifts out loose strands.
Keep the neckline
Trim only below your neckline at home and leave the cheek line to us.
Book the next one
Rebook before you leave. Two to three weeks holds the shape for most beards.
Start with a first shaping
Thirty minutes, and a plan for the weeks after.
